The inaugural meeting of Zhejiang Industrial Design Association was held on 11 April 2009 at Shao Yifu Science Hall in Zhejiang University of Technology. Present at the meeting, there are more than 200 representatives from 10 universities in terms of Zhejiang University, China Academy of Art, Zhejiang University of Technology, Zhejiang Sci-Tech University, Ningbo University, Wenzhou University, etc. and provincially famous industrial design companies like Feish Design, TOOUT Design and BOLE Design, etc.

Apart from the above representatives from universities and companies, we have distinguished leaders and guests from Zhejiang Association for Science and Technology, Zhejiang Civil Affairs Bureau, Zhejiang Economic and Trade Committee, and China Industrial Design Association, etc. The preparation status has been reported; the first Council and leaders of Zhejiang Industrial Design Association have been elected. Professor Pan Yuhe, Standing Vice Chairman of Chinese Academy of Engineering has been elected as the President of the Council; Professor Zhao Yang from China Academy of Art was nominated as the Standing Vice President; the title of Vice Presidents went to Professor Sun Shouqian from Zhejiang University, Professor Zhou Xu from Zhejiang University of Technology, Professor Pan Rong from Zhejiang Sci-Tech University, Professor Shu Xiang’e from Wenzhou University, and Li Qi, President of Hangzhou R&D Design Co., Ltd.. And Professor Fang Qiang from Zhejiang Shuren University was elected as Vice President and Secretary General.

Professor Pan Yunhe, President of the Council expressed his wish that since Zhejiang Industrial Design Association has been set up, we shall take every opportunity to develop ourselves and carry out more communication with international associations of the industry, to serve industrial design companies to work out with innovative designs and to contribute to the economic growth of Zhejiang Province. Professor Zhao Yang, Standing Vice President of the Council reported the annual working plans for the year on four major categories of training, research, subjects and activities. He also advices that an Industrial Design Research Institute of international standard be set up so as to bring in more world talents of this industry.
